Maths home learning challenges
Below is a grid of challenges based on the maths learning that would have taken place during Spring term:
M3 Create/make/write a number line with your child from 0-20. Say a number, can they find that number and then identify one more or one less than that number? |
M6 Create a list of calculations for your child to complete that involves missing numbers and placing the equals at the start (10= 4+_) for your child to solve. They can use resources or challenge them to use fingers. |
M9 Use containers/jugs with measures on. Fill it up and explore the number on the side – what value does this have (ml/l).
Can they fill it up to Xml? |
M12 Practise using a ruler to measure the items and record their answers.
Remember to start from zero and use cm when writing it down. |
M2 Ask your child to count out an amount of objects between 0 and 20. Can they take one object away to find one less? |
M5 Using the grid created below create a list of sums to show all the ways to make 10.
Extension – can they start to use their fingers?
|
M8 Compare the different sized containers. If I fill the biggest container from the smallest one what happens? If I fill the smallest container from the biggest one what happens? |
M11 Using non-standard units of measure e.g. Lego, cubes, pasta, can they measure how long each item is and record it? (5 pasta shells long, 3 Lego bricks tall). |
M1 Ask your child to count out an amount of objects between 0 and 20. Can they add one more object to find one more? |
M4 Make a grid of 10 squares, 5 on the top and 5 on the bottom (or cut a large egg box into a grid to show 10). Using two different colours/objects, colour/fill the boxes and create number bonds to 10 and discuss what you can see. |
M7 Explore capacity using cups/jugs/containers.
Fill with sand/water/rice and discuss full, half full and empty. |
M10 Find three objects from around the room. Order them from smallest to biggest / shortest to tallest. Can you add two more items in, where would they go? How do you know? |
